DocuThink Launches Slack Integration: Share, Track, and Discuss Documents Without Leaving Slack
Our Slack integration is now live. Import documents from Slack channels, send reading notifications, and get comprehension summaries, all without leaving where your team already works.
DocuThink Launches Slack Integration: Share, Track, and Discuss Documents Without Leaving Slack
Today we're launching our Slack integration — and it's more than a notification connector.
We built this integration around a single question: where does document sharing actually happen in most teams?
The answer, for most modern companies, is Slack. Documents get shared in Slack channels. Discussions happen in threads. The "official" document might live in Drive, but the real conversation happens in Slack.
So we built the integration to meet teams where they already are.
What the Slack Integration Does
Import from Slack Channels
Any file shared in a Slack channel can now be imported directly into DocuThink with a single command:
\\\`
/docuthink import
\\\`
DocuThink pulls the most recent file from the channel, processes it, and returns a DocuThink link in the thread — ready for your team to read with full AI assistance and tracking.
Send Reading Notifications Through Slack
When you assign a document to team members in DocuThink, you can now choose to notify them via Slack instead of (or in addition to) email.
The notification appears in their DMs or in a designated channel, with a direct link to the document. One click and they're reading.
Comprehension Summaries in Slack
When a team member completes a document and its comprehension test, you can configure DocuThink to post a summary to a Slack channel:
✅ [Name] completed "Q4 Strategy Brief"
Reading time: 14 minutes | Comprehension score: 88% | Completed: today at 10:32 AM
Visible to managers. Celebratory for the team member. No dashboard login required.
Ask the DocuThink AI from Slack
For documents your team is currently reading, they can ask questions directly in Slack:
\\\`
/docuthink ask [document name] What is the deadline for the new process rollout?
\\\`
The AI answers based on the document content and posts the response in the thread visible to everyone in the channel.
Setting Up the Integration
Step 1: Install the DocuThink Slack App
1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack
2. Click Add to Slack
3. Choose your workspace
4. Authorize (we request permission to post messages and read file metadata nothing else)
Step 2: Connect to Your Workspace
Once installed, link your DocuThink workspace to your Slack workspace. This enables:
- Channel-level notifications
- The
/docuthinkcommand across channels - Automatic comprehension summary posting
Step 3: Configure Notifications
Choose where you want comprehension summaries posted:
- A dedicated #docs-tracking channel
- The same channel where documents were shared
- Manager DMs only
You control the visibility level.
Why This Matters for Async Teams
For distributed and async teams, Slack is the office. Documents shared there need to be tracked, understood, and discussable without requiring a separate tool visit for every action.
This integration reduces the friction between "document shared" and "document understood" to near-zero. The whole loop share, read, comprehend, verify happens in the communication layer your team already uses.
What's Next for Integrations
Our integration roadmap:
- Microsoft Teams : in development, launching Q2 2026
- Dropbox : in beta, launching soon
- Notion : planned for Q3 2026
- Zapier / Make : for custom workflow automation, planned Q2 2026
